Celebrating 40 years since the band’s festive hit Last Christmas was released, ad agency TBWA\Neboko has reimagined scenes from the music video for the Albert Heijn spot.

Supermarket chain Albert Heijn has tapped into the excitement surrounding the 40th anniversary of Wham’s classic 1984 hit Last Christmas. Its ad brings nostalgia to life by recreating memorable scenes from the original music video, including the beloved dinner table moment.

Enhancing the authenticity, Andrew Ridgeley, who was one half of the pop duo alongside George Michael, makes a cameo appearance alongside some new faces, including a disgruntled hamster.

The campaign presented a unique creative challenge: balancing the nostalgia of Last Christmas with a modern twist. As Darre van Dijk, chief creative officer at TBWA\Neboko, explained, the aim was to craft something emotionally resonant while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original.

The full commercial will air on television and digital platforms throughout December. The ad and the original music video have also been unveiled side-by-side.
