In the new ad, the Human Traffic star fills pint glasses with crisps, urging Dry January participants to swap booze for Walkers’ 0.0% alcohol snacks.

Walkers, a PepsiCo-owned British snack food company, is kicking off the new year with a witty take on Dry January, promoting its ‘Better For You’ snacks as the go-to for those abstaining from alcohol this month.

Starring Danny Dyer, famed Eastenders landlord Mick Carter, the campaign cheekily touts Walkers Better For You snacks – like Walkers Baked and SunBites – as 0.0% alcohol, spoofing alcohol-free beer ads.

In the ad, Dyer is seen behind the bar, pouring ‘pints’ of crisps for unsuspecting patrons attempting a dry January. Using a beer foam scraper to ensure a “crisp finish,” Dyer embodies the campaign’s humorous spirit, urging viewers to embrace the lighter side of sticking to their New Year resolutions.

“Many people will start the new year off by cutting back on the things they enjoy, making one of the gloomiest months of the year perhaps even gloomier. But of course, our Better For You snack range is 0.0% alcohol, making sticking to good intentions a little easier,” said Cynthia Finke, marketing director of portfolio brands at PepsiCo UK.

The campaign, created by the Madrid-based creative agency PS21, is informed by research from the London Medical Laboratory, which found that while many people set resolutions to cut back on drinking, up to 80% of Brits quit their good intentions by the end of February.
