NoNothingNovember, Day 25

Making the NoNothingNovember journal more useful.

I decided to change the format of my diary a little bit – to make it easier to learn from.

I will still write down what happened in each category, but now it will be preceded by:

What did I learn today?

and then structure the posts into

(1.) What went well?

(2.) What do I want to improve?

(3.) How will I improve?

That way, I can track my progress better and give myself some “love” while still working on improving my life. Especially (3.) forces me to come up with a little plan on HOW to improve.

Once a week I review these points and thus see (a) what I have accomplished and (b) where I still need to correct my path.

What did I learn today?

You can actually notarize a document at a UPS store. If you do it with an attorney, you pay $20 – $30 per document. With the UPS notary, it cost $2 per document. Win!

Just call them beforehand to figure out where and when the guy is on duty. The rest is walking in and getting his signature and a seal.

Ten minutes and you are done.

What went well?

Sleep

I went to bed on time and set my alarm clock right.

Sweets and snacks

No problem here.

Social media

I only used Twitter and Facebook to post things I am grateful for. Nothing else.

Blog

I published one article, even if “only” a NoNothingNovember diary entry, per day.

Manuscript

Some more experiments that we needed to finish.

other

I got all my last paperwork together to file an I-140 document… this is the actual official application for my Green Card.

What do I want to improve?

Sleep

I slept longer than I planned to.

Sweets and snacks

Even though I can easily avoid the treats, I am eating too irregularly.

Sometimes only a coffee for breakfast, nothing for lunch, then a lot of mozzarella and tomatoes in the evening – I want to get into a regular eating schedule.

If I don’t, I create sudden “hunger pangs” that make it very difficult to avoid eating snacks after all.

Social media

I start spending more time on other websites. They are mostly from blogs I follow, and the posts are informative, but I want to get back to reading a real book instead.

Blog

I am yearning to get more than one diary entry published.

Manuscript

I haven’t proceeded as far as I wanted in my manuscript. The experiments take away a lot of time from assembling the actual figures.

other

I still have to get one last vaccination – TDAP – before we can move forward after we have sent the I-140.

How will I improve?

Sleep

I will set my alarm clock to 6.5 hours of sleep.

If I yet continuously sleep longer than that, it means I need reserve even more time for sleep.

If I sleep less than that, then my need for sleep just fluctuates. Remember: sometimes I wake up after already 5 hours of sleep, so I think 6.25 hours are pretty close to my actual need.

Sweets and snacks

I will get back to preparing my meals ahead of time and freeze the portions in tupper ware. That way, I can cook once every one – two weeks and never need to worry about being hungry again.

Social media

I will switch off my phone and avoid taking anything else with me but my iPad (which does not have 3G) or the book I am currently reading.

Blog

#1 – I will continue to keep a journal, but I will only post my progress once a week (starting 12/01/2014). That will free up time for writing other blog posts.

#2 – I will reserve some time in the morning and evening to at least write one paragraph, even if I don’t manage to write the complete post in one day. That way, at least, I stay “in flux”.

Manuscript

I will use the time over Thanksgiving to work on the manuscript figures, so that I can get at least all data that we already have assembled.

other

I will try to get the TDAP vaccination done at some RiteAid or CVS store over the Thanksgiving holidays.

NoNothingNovember continues: Day 26 tomorrow.
