FCB NY took the Grand Prix for its work with Spotify and Area 23 received the President’s Award for its work with Siemens Healthineers.

‘Magnetic Stories’ transforms a scary MRI into a wondrous experience

As part of The Drum’s annual Awards Festival, today we celebrated The Drum Awards for Design.

Taking home the top prize, the Grand Prix, is FCB New York for Spotify.

Spotify wanted to show media planners that it is so much more than an audio platform, that it has video and multiformat ads, that it is interactive, collaborative and highly engaging and that its ROI goes way beyond numbers on a spreadsheet.

To break through, it found a way to hack the RFP process and change the conversation… showing media planners and the entire marketing industry why Spotify Advertising goes beyond just plain digital audio.

The recipient of the President’s Award, meanwhile, as chosen by jury head Brian Collins, the co-founder of renowned brand consultancy Collins, is IPG Health company Area 23 with ‘Magnetic Stories’ for Siemens Healthineers.

‘Magnetic Stories’ is a unique audiobook collection that transforms a scary MRI into a wondrous experience for younger patients.

The stories are played through non-magnetic, MRI-compatible headphones, which use piezoelectric transducers to convert electrical signals into sound waves. These headphones work by receiving the audio signals from the MRI control room and delivering them to the patient's ears.

Now, pediatric patients can immerse themselves in original stories during their scans, easing their fears inside the machine.
